The assistant idea is what's going to allow you to find the problem.. show them how to replicate the clunk, then have them do it continuously until as you look *and feel* various parts under there until you find it. I doubt you'll be able to identify the culprit by just looking under there yourself.

Could be a safety issue, so you'd best get on it soon!
