Idle is done with the IAC: more air = higher idle. The ECU maintains the proper mixture for idle. Idle isn't controlled by the mixture.
Mixture is always calculated by the AMM... and slightly "tweaked" by the O2 sensor. LH 2.4 is "adaptive", meaning that the ECU figures out slight discrepancies between the two, and accounts for it. Doesn't matter if the amount of air being sucked into the engine is regulated by the IAC (at idle), or by your foot (off idle). Everything does the same thing regardless.
