Anyone wanting to bone up on how to read European wiring schematics, and what the numbers on relays mean, may find this good bedtime reading. It's called "Understanding European DIN Wiring":

A good parts store will have a catalog of relays. Once you know the functions and the DIN numbers, you may find a good substitute relay if you invest time. Though not directly relevant to this relay topic, this article is a good reference to help sort the wiring issues that bedevil our bricks.
