The floats are a little bit far from the covers, but that's nothing to do with your poor fuel economy. I don't know what you might expect with an automatic, but certainly far better than 10 MPG.

Does the ignition timing advance? If you rev the engine, does it go past 30 BTDC? You need a timing light to check this, of course.
