Well, I can tell you what I did....
Mind this was in Panama before the advent of many of the "usual suspects", or at least
before I became aware of them (20+ years ago).
The glass was already loose and I was concerned about it. A guy whose body shop I had used
(Pretty good work, poor materials durability) said he put them in with silicone adhesive.
I made some small spacers to make sure the glass was in the middle and, making a horrible
mess I stuck it together. Before doing that I used a 5/16" bolt held threaded end up in
a vise as an anvil/rivet set.
I put the hinge together with a stainless pop rivet, once the assembly was ready.
