Stalling again! Dead pre-pump 200 1992

Since I am not so good at taking things apart myself (bare with me, I'm a technically challenged woman), after checking and replacing fuses, relays, connections and grounds as much as I could access, I gave it to my trusty mechanic today. Of course this is something we likely will chase for a while but he looked it over and this is what he found:

Pre-pump is dead. Will replace it with its filter and also will replace the other fuel filter (hasn't been done in at least 90k).

The CPS had been clipped to the frame in a weird way he said making it a bit too tight so he rearranged that.

All connections etc seem to be good however he looked at the ECU and it is the dreaded 561 unit and per tag it's NOT remanufactured meaning it's probably still the original one and he said that makes him highly suspicious. I am looking for an ECU now - want to upgrade to the 951 - and there's quite a few floating around on ebay for under $ 200. I wonder if it's a good idea to swap it out and keep the old 561 as a spare for what it's worth (for all we know it may still be good). Any thoughts on this?


Will drive it and report back.
