Don‘t remove the FPR, just take the vacuum hose off that goes to it. See if gas has leaked into it.

A hammer can be a great tool like anything else, but you have to use it properly. I was just imagining the fuel regulator cracking off and spraying gas everywhere.

You cannot flood a fuel injected engine with the gas pedal.

Does your car have a cold start injector?
