Common Issues? 200

The first thing to do would be to drain the M47 and refill with Redline Synthetic MTL, as much of 2 quarts as you can get in there. The older M47 had it's fill plug mounted a little too low to get enough fluid in to lubricate the fifth gear bearings fully and properly. I don't know if your year tranny falls into that catagory, you might be able to tell by looking at the trans to see if there is a flat "boss" area below the fill plug where the old plug would've been located before. In any event, jacking the car up on one side to tilt it will allow you to get extra fluid into the trans. It should extend the service life of the trans to upwards of 300K miles. Mine was rebuilt at close to that mileage and the only worn parts were the fifth gear bearings. Try to find a new IAC motor, too, if you can pick one up cheaply. They show up on ebay from time to time.
I've kept an inventory of plastic interior parts that has been helpful over the years too; they have a habit of becoming brittle and breaking easily.
