Second the courtesy lamp delay relay suggestion. I had one that varied, with the lamp sometimes actually illuminating dimly.

Also, some el cheapo car alarms will reveal a weak battery. My 740 came equipped with one that pulled 200ma, not enough to be noticed when the battery was good and the car used semi-regularly.u
