Adjusting Height of Sunroof Panel on 740

After you open and close the sunroof, does it ever reach a proper position if you start to pop up the rear?

***NO IT NEVER REACHES flush in front, and I think it's properly timed, because when it reached CLOSED, or Tilt Position 1 (half up in back) or Position 2 (full up in back) the handle "locks", and the black release button must be used to unlock rotation. Everything works perfectly except the front sits low no matter what. With the crank, of course, I can move it one way or the other a bit and watch what happens.

I ask because my "88 745 GLE had a bad sunroof motor that did not stop in the proper place. I bought the car from a dealer in November, and I did not find out about the motor stop until the first time I opened the roof in the spring.

The manager at the dealer was as mad as a wet hen because I had talked the salesman into running the car through their certified Volvo checklist and the sunroof boxes were not marked BAD or OK. I got a new motor.

Several years later the motor went again and I replaced it with a hand crank. The hand crank did not stop in the proper place and I was able to fix it by -

- cranking it closed with the roof in the wrong place

- then cranking it a bit more until the roof looked good

- Then I removed the crank and cranked it to its stop

- then I installed the crank again.

After that it worked well for years.

You might be able to do the same with a motor.

**SINCE I HAVE THE MANUAL SUNROOF (and not a motorized one), it's not a problem (I CAN stop it anywhere I want if it wasn't perfectly "timed" is it is (or was until I disassembled it today).

***MAYBE WHAT I NEED TO DO is to build a ramp at the front of the crossbar to simulate having a wind deflector so the lid manually rides up on IT as it would if I actually HAD a pop-up deflector.

***IN OTHER WORDS, maybe these sunroofs are not meant to be adjusted flush UNLESS a wind deflector is installed that pushes it flush.
