Steering glitch problem 700 1989

I recently acquired an 89 740GL. A solid car with only one discernible problem that I can tell. When taking long sweeping curves, in both directions, the steering wheel will subtly grab, then release in 1-2 second intervals until the car straightens back out. Doesn't seem to be a safety issue but more annoying than anything else. Does anyone know or can theorize as to the faulty part that is causing this?
