green DOT4 brake fluid

oldduke wrote--"i suspect there is no significance to the different colors. didnt know until today there was a red brake fluid" I would think the purple fluid is/was that color to differentiate it from normal fluid - the purple stuff being meant for extreme use on the track. It has a higher boiling point than normal service fluid. I think the red fluid--Girling brand if I remember correctly--was specified to protect the seals in the Girling brake and clutch systems which could be eaten up by the DOT 3 fluid of that time. -- Dave
