You are right about Ignition not being fused...they seldom are, being considered a flight critical function.

Ignition Coils with higher Primary resistance such as the Bosch coils do not have a Ballast resistor "built-in". They are designed and made with a primary wire gauge and iron-core characteristics so that they don't need one.

Keep on swapping components and report findings. I am following this thread and will help when I see the opportunity.
