Hi,

I believe the 'few inches' the OP is taking about is how far the pedal can travel after disengagement before it hits the floor, and not the free travel it has before beginning disengagement.

There's probably a relationship between these 2 measurements, but I think the latter is the one that most of us are used to seeing.
