Incomplete Clutch Disengagement.. or something

Thanks for the tip.
I could see this as a possibility as I was installing it. However, I don't have a lift so I am doing this on my back, under the car with the transmission strapped to a transmission jack. In this position I don't believe I could muscle the m46 around as would be necessary. In the past when I've done transmissions or clutches, I've done it with the engine out. I wasn't anticipating the clearance issue with the starter recess.
I think when I redo this, I will lift the engine enough to move it forward enough to facilitate the removal and installation.
