Re: Points Gap, Timing for '71 142S 140-160 1971

Better read my other post again. It said "vacuum connected".

If you choose to disconnect it, then don't use my timing spec;

it will be advanced to far when you reconnect the vacuum.

Now if the numbers only go to 10, you can't very well set timing

more than 10 by them, right?

So the numbers from zero that stop at 10 are AFTER TDC, put there

for other purposes than setting your ignition timing.

To reiterate, don't disconnect anything, and set your ignition timing

to 21-24° on the scale that includes those values (the numbers that

run up to 30). Don't do this until you have set your points by

ignition dwell, because that may change the timing. Set the dwell

FIRST to 57-30° using the scale for 4 cylinder engines or doubling

the scale for 8 cylinder engines. Smaller point gap gives more

dwell. After you set the dwell, then set the timing as described

above.
