Re: `86 760 as a winter car?

If it's a V6, it's not really a car for the faint of heart. They require proper maintanance, while a 4-cylinder volvo can survive owner cruelty almost indefinitely.

If everything on the V6 isn't already as good as it could be, then you could be stepping into a mess (perhaps the "real" reason he's selling?) and unless you do you own work, could really cause you to hate Volvos... If this is your first foray into Volvos, take the car to a dealer or shop to have thme look it over for you, should cost you an hour's labor)

That said, it IS a great winter car. I drive my 780 (basically a 760 coupe) all winter with four snow tires, and never think twice. (Of course, my wife also drives her Miata all winter with a hardtop and four snows, as long as it's no more than 4" of snow...) Don't let folks try to sway you from driving a RWD car in winter, that's no big deal, and you're already used to RWD from the Miata.

Good luck!
