Not such a new idea, methinks. I believe that the oil change indicators that are standard on many GM vehicles do just that. There was something I read on these systems, but can't remember where. They monitor engine parameters like temperature, rpm, etc., as well as other pertinent information to figure the life of the oil. I have a friend who owns a new GM truck that indicates oil changes about every 6k based on her driving habits.
Now how do you track such a thing in an older vehicle? Let us know your solution.
