I spoke to the people who re-lined the cone clutch and the reckoned it should cope with the power/torque. They couldn't give me a figure though for what the limits are, but pointed out the D type was used on the 2.5 litre Triumph Vitesse.
Iadr was bang on with the pressure relief valve. However you don't need a stronger spring. I started out with a 20 thou shim (washer) under it which gave me a better pressure. On the D type you can fit a pressure gauge on the plug above the operating rod. I gave the car a caning, got it really hot and set the pressure to 500 PSI hot. It also now has Mobill 1 Motorsport 15-50 oil ewhich helped. It gives pressure of 560 or so psi cold. They're supposed to run at 450 and I just hope I don't start distorting the cone clutch. Apparently they're less prone to this than the J because the actual cone is physically stronger in the D, though the lining area is smaller.
Anyone know why the 2 precedeing messages in this thread come up as read only?
Regards
Pete
