Random miss problem seems fixed 200 1988

Hi to all -

Maybe you remember I posted about a random miss problem that caused car to flunk emissions test. Well, it seems to be gone, but from a rather unexpected repair.

I had replaced the FPR, PCV system, O2 sensor, and cleaned the TB. Next up is a timing belt and valve adjustment.

Then one morning I started the car and the warning lights stayed on about 1/2 bright. Revved up a little and they went out. OK rest of the day. Same problem every morning. Must be brushes.

Put in new brush/regulator unit and did oil change to 20W-50 (hot round here) and LO! the @#$% miss is seemingly gone. I say seemingly because it seems so unlikely that new brushes would cure the miss problem. The old ones were evenly worn and down to about 3mm.

Any ideas on how that "cure" worked??

Regards,

Bob
