Power Windows, Exterior Trim (long)

Bill

" Before you go after the window motors, try this. Lube the glass chanel liberally with clear aerosol silicone spray. Next adjust the regulators by raising the window all the way, loosen the regulator mounting bolts, and bump the switch downward slightly to un load tension on the glass and regulator, then re-tighten the bolts. This usually frees things up and the window moves more freely. "

The glass channel being the rubber seals on either lateral side of the glass?

Ah, that is what the bentley meant by loosening the regulator bolts to loosen up the glass. This is interesting method, I will have to do that. Just the regulator mounting bolts? not the motor or the window stops?

TOo bad I put the door panel back on, thankfully it is easy to remove!

Good, I need something to quicken those windows up. they sure take a while to raise.

"If the trim below the doors is not kinked, it can usually be straightened enough to look ok. You mant to install the clips on the car 1st, then the trim. Twist the trim a bit to engage 1 side of the clip, then gige it a whack with the butt of your hand or a small rubber mallet. It installs fairly easily. When you whack it, do so directly over the clip. After you clean the fuse box, apply some dielectric to the terminals to prevent future corrosion. "

I have not checked the trim to see if it is kinked, if I remember right it is not totally straight though. Thanks, I will use that method to put it back on, hopefully the trim is good.

Yea, when I clean the fusebox I am going to apply some Oxgard conductive grease to inhibit corrosion and promote conduction. Last time I put dielectric on there and it was not a good thing, after a short trip the fuel pump fuse was burning and melting.
