You should be able to swap the fuel regulators without difficulty.
Locate the "fuel rail," which is the pipe that connects to each of the four injectors and delivers the fuel. At the front, you'll see a small can-like gizmo about 2" diameter and 2" long (maybe 2.5 by 2.5, or so). The fuel rail couples into one side, a fuel return line is attached at the back, and a small vacuum hose (about 1/4" OD) goes from the front to a small fitting on the intake manifold.
These regulators can fail two ways. The first is that the internal spring fails, and they deliver fuel at higher pressure to the injectors. This means the injectors spray more fuel. The second failure mode is a pinhole in the diaphragm, and raw fuel is sucked into the intake through the vacuum sensing hose.
Pull the hose and examine it or sniff it for fuel. You should find none. Any hint of gas means it's bypassing fuel.
