I helped a 71 142 by going the cheap route using a quarter inch thick air bubble lined on both sides with foil insulation purchased at a local hardware store for I think $1/square foot. The guy said it used in airplanes so I figured it was good enough for an old beater. Also from a body paint supply house I used some rubber sheets that have an adheasive back. The previous mentioned stuff required spray glue. I used the foil lined insulation under the hood, on the firewall, inside the doors, and under the carpet and up behind the dash as much as possible. No overdrive and the car is not bad at 70.
My next move is to install an electric fan to assist the AC and to hopefully reduce road noise more. Does anyone think it helps the noise issue?
