Wide wheel offset 140-160 1973

Hi John

I have widend the original steel wheels on my 68 144 sedan and no you shouldent have any major problems I had the original steel wheels pumped out to 8" with the back spacing kept as per factory and are fitted with 225 - 50 -15 rubber on them and they dont rub on the inner guards at all however they do rub on the piece of guard between the front bumper and wheel at the bottom of each front guard and a gentle lip will allow them to fit no problem and they will also rub in the rears but at the top when the suspension is in compression you can take the lip of there with a grinder it takes about 10 mins to do the backs and the fronts i had a panel shop do for me because they would be seen. The wheels cost me $80 OZ dollars each to get done and they were supplied to me in a black etch primer which i then had to get painted.

I live in the hill in the south east of Melbourne and the roads a quite twisty and the difference in handeling is nothing shor of incredible with the extra added grip and re done suspension the car when cornering picks up the inside wheel so spirited street driving won't be a problem.

The car wont "tram track" unless on very rough corrugations or rough bitumen but for city street driving no problem.

Hope this helps you out.
Best regds
