Idle Problems 200 1981

Alez,

Thanks for the great post. What is the tool in your picture?

My car has a B21F with Bosch ignition. These are some of the things I've done to the engine since I got the car about four months ago. These jobs were not done specifically to chase the idle problem. I'm just listing the things that, as I understand engines, could possibly have something to do with idle problems:

injector seals
breather box
flame trap and all associated plumbing cleaned/replaced
all the vacuum lines I found under the manifold replaced
manifold gasket
throttle body removal, cleaning, new gasket
engine gauge temp sensor from Groton
Bosch dist. cap and rotor
Mann air filter
cleaned the IAC unit
new fuel filter
new short hose on in-tank pump
new sock filter on in-tank pump
new fuses, cleaned fuse block
cleaned both fuel pump grounds
timing belt

I thought my next job should be the engine wiring harness, which I know is not in top shape. I have a used new version already. I thought I'd also spend the money and replace the thermo-time switch, and maybe the sensor below # 1 which I think is the ECT sensor.?.? Does this seem like a sensible approach? I know I should have done the harness while I was in there, but a good used one was not available.

Where is the CIS computer and is it obvious how to disconnect it? I don't yet have a tool to measure the RPM's. Can you recommend the way to go on that? Is a simple tachometer that hooks up under the hood recommended, or is there a meter that serves many purposes that would be preferable?
