Guys;
Yeah, I'm around...and you all probably know how I feel about those hydraulic switches...designwise, MAYBE OK in their day (if they work at all), when there was a lot less traffic and it moved a lot slower, but no-way today, when there are a lot more cars, moving faster, and right on top of your tail...you need to keep up, and certainly want to give those guys as much notice as possible, that your hitting your brakes...and there's NO future at all in driving without brakelights...DON'T DO IT!
Unforunately, I don't have a 544 handy for designing up a "pedal-position-sensing" mechanical replacement ala the 122/1800 upgrades, and I do realize the pedal mechanism is totally different with the linkage going through a hole in the floor to the master, so those kits are not adaptable...I would still however try to use the same principle ("pedal-position-sensing") for an upgrade...if someone would like to get together (I'm located in central CT)to present me with a stock 544 to use for measurements please contact me *...I'll be happy to design something up...and don't let the fact that the switch MAY be located below the floorboards bother you...I bet I can make it weather/slushproof enough to be more reliable then that OE hydraulic switch ANY DAY!!!
* as an alternate, someone can climb under their car and take some pix...I'm sure we could come up with a workable solution...I'm sure a lot of you 544 owners could use this upgrade...I certainly recommend it!
Cheers
