No spark 700 1989

Nathan,
if you remove the red/white wire from the coil do you get a light at the coil terminal? if not, the coil primary winding is open circuit.
This red/white wire goes to the power stage ( aka ignition amplifier )on the left hand inner fender shown below.

This power stage acts like the points in a normal ignition system,ie.it makes and breaks to switch the coil primary to ground.
This switching is controlled by a 5V square wave signal from the the ECU which in turn gets it signal from either the Hall Effect sensor in the distributor or crankshaft position sensor depending on which you have.
There is also a connection from the red white wire to the fuel pump relay to tell the relay that the engine is turning over.
