If you can measure the height (thickness) of the head from the head bolt surface to the underside at the water pump area, it is then fairly easy to tell the compression ratio within a few points. If the engine idles relatively well, then the cam is probably stock, either a K or a D grind.
What symptoms does the engine produce - "don't know what's up" - that you are concerned about?
