I also cut off the nibs on the bulb holder to allow me to experiment with its placement. You have to experiment to get the correct placement; I don't know that there are any landmarks on the bulb holder to say how to find the correct location without trial and error.
As for the bridge, I took a piece of thin sheet metal (from one of those old socket set bars that you use to hold your sockets in the tool box) and bent it into a "z" shape with a short leg (about 1 1/2 inches long) and a longer leg (about 5 inches long). I drilled a hole in the short leg, and put this over the bottom peg from the taillight, then tightened the retaining nut over it. I had to experiment a little to get the correct tension on the bulb holder to keep it held down tightly. It has worked fine now for a couple of years.
Good luck. It is a little frustrating until you get it arranged correctly. But then it works fine.
