Timing belt riding forward - then breaking -aft head gasket replace -HELP

You don`t need to spend money on a special tool to hold the cam pulley or the intermediate shaft.
I did mine by placing a pry bar or big screwdriver from the front through one of the holes in the pulley and wedge the end against the most convenient point (bolt or rib) on the head or block.

The belt tensioner is a sealed bearing and the only way to grease it would be by prising the seal out which would almost certainly destroy it.

Colin.
