Respectfully, I have to disagree with Marc and support the other replies.
You don't have to cut the seal unless it's really old and has become brittle: the 'lever it and push on it' method will work fine.
The trim can be installed before or after the glass is on the car - either way is fine. You don't need a "special tool" for this (I use a dental pick and some wire).
You should use sealant: Volvo used it when they built your 544 and they were pretty smart back then. 3M "bedding compound" works very well. You may not *need* to, but why wouldn't you?
Maaco? I sure hope they did a better job on your car than their standard!
