Proper timing setting 700 1990

Jim, you can't set the advance -- it's controlled by the ign ecu. Rotating the distributor (as we formerly set timing) has no effect because the ignition signal is derived from the flywheel (crank) sensor.

Any slight error that might be induced by the timing belt will have no influence on the signal picked up from the flywheel/flexplate.

And if you make any mistake with the timing belt, it will be in multiples of belt cogs (teeth). If no mistake, then cam timing will be just as before.

To answer your question about the proper advance....... Look on the decal underhood. The decal on my '91 740 (firewall, top, passenger side) says that the only tune up adjustments are valve lash. I expect that your '90 and my '91 are about the same (other than how my beats the daylights outta ours....).
