I agree 100%. It's not worth the hassle chasing the last HP out of an engine by raising the compression unless it's a track-only car. One of my cars has an old 2130cc race engine in it with 11:1 compression & it is horrible with it's fuel requirements. I have welded & filed the advance curve to less than half it's travel & it needs more timing taken out. It idles at 5 degrees & advances to 20 degrees total. Anymore timing and it pings for 2 seconds before breaking in to a blood curdling round of detonation. My other car has 8.5:1 comp, runs great on any fuel you like & you can put the timing where ever you want and it won't ping.
