It's less than half the price because it's probably less than half a paintjob!

All kidding aside, price and quality do go hand-in-hand when it comes to paint shops. With the discount shops (Maaco, Earl Schieb, 1-day, etc.), the quality varies from shop to shop, and some do perform a decent job. Nonetheless, to keep the price low, corners are still going to be cut.
