Paul,

Probably depends on the motor. My performance engine is designed to be a very "fast burner" at high VE conditions, so it doesn't use much advance -- without having dynoed it, max power seems to be at 32 BTDC total advance. I can definitely tell a difference in economy with the vacuum hooked up.

On my unmodified B20E, it seems to make little difference (but doesn't hurt, either).
