I just reread your post. Is the plastic seal you are referring to the disc that I observed immediately below the rotor, with a diameter roughly equal to the the diameter of the distributor, and with a small rectangular notch cut out, or is it a seal more like a gasket that would only fit at the perimeter, and not cover the middle innards of the distributor?
