I've been using DOT 5 for about 18 years with GREAT success, started in
Panama after testing DOT 5 there for the US Army. It is better because
it does not attract, entrain or mix with water, so even if the humidity
is VERY high, the system stays dry and corrosion is NOT a problem.
It is somewhat worse about entraining air than DOT 3 and 4, so if you get
bubbles in it, they are hard to get out and will cause a spongy pedal.
This has NOT been a problem for me. I finally wore out my first set of
cluch master cylinder rubber parts in DOT 5 fluid after using them
for 17 years. Can you get a clutch master cylinder (122) to last that long
with any other fluid?
