244 electrical problem...fuse melted? 200 1984

The behavior of the lights may be the result of a deteriorated wiring harness. This is a problem with the older 240s.

I'd replace that fuse and fuse holder in the engine compartment. If the problem there was a corroded fuse holder, the holder would get hot and could melt. It may be there is no problem with the pump. You can get a fuse holder at most auto parts places. This would be the least expensive way to begin and the fuse and fuse holder will have to be replaced anyway. If this gets you going, you can consider the possible replacement of the wiring harness. If the fuse immediately blows, you'll have to dig deeper.

My daughter's '84 240 is nearly perfect but I do keep an eye on the wiring. We have much milder winters here in Western Oregon so there is much less stress on driver and car. After hearing some friends describe Rochester winters, I can see hibernation as really attractive.
