take it or leave it ? 1800 1972

As has been said many times on this forum, the single most serious problem with any 1800 is RUST. Surface rust and a few bubbles here and there can be taken care of but when rust has taken over the hidden areas, of which there are many, it's just a matter of time before the car self destructs. New York tags say "SALT" to me. I guess I'd take a good long look at the car and go from there. If it's been restored, is there a lot of plastic filler? What about the interior? Does it run at all and, if so, how well? The FI can require some tinkering to get it just right and some components are getting hard to find. The car needs a thorough inspection and some research into how much it will cost to make it a usable vehicle. I'd make the guy a real lowball offer. He might just take it. One last thing, if it has automatic transmission, I wouldn't even consider it. The automatics just didn't have the performance of the four speed cars. Just my opinion. Good luck and I hope the car is worthwhile.
