What is this A/C electrical component? 700 1988

Thanks so much for posting this question. I just went out and put my volt meter on it to find out it was a diode, and by the time I got back several board members already pointed that out.

This problem has been driving me nuts. I can tell you what happens without the diode. If you shut the a/c off. The engine will take a big rpm dip and then try to compensate by opening the IAC valve so it revs up to about 1500 rpm briefly and returns to normal. That is assuming the engine does not shut down completely which it has done 3 times since I fixed my A/C.

I should have known the the coil would induce voltage back into the system when the current stops flowing to it. It makes sense now.

Thanks,

R Duke
