Hi Chuck and thanks for your reply.the timing belt was replaced due to cheered teeth while the car was stationary.i have checked the alignment marks on the crank and camshaft pulley and they seem to align fine.what is puzzling me is the cam lobe for #1 (looking through the oil cap ,engine at TDC) is closing a little on the valve not like my other 740 pointing further up from the valve,if i reset the belt for the cam lobe to change position maybe i get better compression like this,but the camshaft mark will be out of alignment and maybe i will damage the valves.i pulled the valve cover off and examined the cam and sprocket but everything looked normal.do you think if i give it a try i will damage the valves?also why 60 PSI in all cylinders and the car was running good before timing belt failure?.i will do a leak down test as you mentioned.thankyou again for your reply and time and have a good day.charles.
