When I bought my 122 about 8 years ago I had to get a new temp gauge before I drove it home from the p/o house.
Maybe things have change since then but I don't remember the guage being that expensive or the installation being difficult at all. Purchaced guage at a Volvo dealership (price??) and the installation took about 20 min. Has worked fine since.
