I changed my oil today, haven't gotten to the timing yet, might play around with it right about now... My oil was BLACK. The oil itself is only 3k old, but i think i didn't change the filter the time before, so there was about 6kish on the filter. Anyhow, the oil was quite nasty, even though i've probably added 3/4 of a quart to it over time... Those highway runs are taking quite a bit of oil with them i guess. What does that mean exactly? I think i might need to get some new rings.(the car was supposedly rebuilt in the last 6 years now, but i don't have any idea how legit that is) BUT, the main thing is, I found on the top of the oil drain magnet plug, about an 1/8" thick(maybe 1/16") layer of black goo... What does that mean?
I'm going to run it with the 10W-30 of GTX and Purolater PureOne filter for the next 2500 or so miles. Then i'll probably perform an engine flush and put some more Castrol GTX 20W50(should've gotten 20W50 this time too) with another filter, no more skipping filters for me. After the next 3k miles, i'll put some Mobil 1 20W50 in it and hope all is well. It does leak a little, but it's only a little, nothing really, but i think it does possibly burn some(although i've never really seen smoke, but i have smelled it inside the car... exhaust needs to be changed...).
And, so an update on my steering box, it leaks about a 2" diameter circle of fluid in two days. So i'm thinking when that stuff is all out of there, i'll put in some really thick stuff as was suggested in that previous post... Alrighty, peaceout!
