HALL SENSOR REPLACEMENT - 760T 700 1985

I have done three disassemblies of the 740 distributors and two were fairly straight forward and one was extemely difficult. The pin removal is the difficult part.

I was able to set my bench vise open slightly to rest the distributor on and allow the pin to be driven out between the open jaws.

Use a pin punch and heavy hammer to accomplish the pin removal. Use the largest pin punch that is still smaller than the diameter of the pin. I would not attempt this job without the correct punch. Support the distributor solidly on the vise, align the pin and punch, and SMACK the pin punch sharply with the hammer. Like I said one of mine was extremely tight.

Mark the parts before removal so as not to reassemble the piece that indexes into the rear of the cam upside down.

There is a small internal seal around the shaft you will want to replace to insure against oil leakage after the rebuild. I believe that is available through FCP Groton. Don't skip the opportunity to replace this seal. It is the same size seal that Honda uses in one of their small engine applications so if you have trouble finding it email me and I will look for the part number for the Honda seal.

There are also two Orings to be replaced; one large and one small. Good luck.

Randy
