HALL SENSOR REPLACEMENT - 760T 700 1985

There is a link in the 700/900 FAQ on doing this, unfortunately it is still down. Maybe Steve can get this repaired.

For the time being, I'll post a couple of pictures and some description. I have done many distributor repairs, and I make a few bucks doign them for one of the local independant Volvo repair shops.

Driving the pin out is the tough part. On some distributors it is easy, and on others you will break straight pin punches.

I start with the fixture and distributor in a vench vice. I use a tapered pin punch to get the pin started moving, as shown in the picture below.

Once the pin has moved a little with the tapered pin punch, spray some lube on it, and switch to using the straight pin punch.

Once the pin is out, use a razor knife and some emery cloth to remove all of the deposits on the shaft before you push it out. If you don't remove the deposits, you'll probably break the fiber washers you want to save.
Before cleaning..

After cleaning...

Make sure you've marked the orientation fo the drive dog to the indexing slot for the rotor, and push the shaft out. Re-assemble using the washers where you found them.

If you cannot do this, ship it to me and I'll do it for free if you pay shipping and make a donation to the brickboard.
