HALL SENSOR REPLACEMENT - 760T 700 1985

Interesting about the fiber washers. I have only taken two distributors apart, but I remember the fiber washers being of varying thickness. I believed that the reason was to shim the placement of the 'reluctance' cup within the Hall sesor.

This is vivid in my memory, because I carefully cleaned the shaft, and removed all the washers. I then proceeded to break one of the fiber washers in two while wiping the faces clean. When I couldn't find a replacemnt, I started devising a plan to use to turn a new washer out of brass shim stock. I never got that far because I found a spare distributor and salvaged a slightly thicker washer from it.

What has your experience been with the thickness?

By the way, I was cleaning up some old files on my computer and ran across the manual pages you sent me regarding 740 heater core replacement. I couldn't remember if I gave you any feedback after completing the job. Thanks - the information has actually helped me through two such operations, '89 760 and '87 740. I found the 760 a bit more difficult in regards to removing the lower air 'ditribution box', but with a little modification and persuasion, it was a success.

Thanks again,

Dan
