I did this job 1.5 years ago so I may have forgotten some stuff. I would look at my car but it is suck in another city waiting for parts.
It is possible that you may not need to jumper the fuel pump relay as I did, your argument makes sense. I could have been wrong in doing it myself and ended up wiring 12 volts to something that already had 12 volts. You could try it without doing so and seeing if the car starts, if it just cranks then perhaps it needs fuel. As for the specific location of the wire I used if it does not connect to the ignition than I can not say without looking at my car.

Yup, take off all the covers until from underneath you have access to the wires. You should not have to take off much to get to it, maybe just the mats I forget. You will be tapping into the wires coming off the back of the assembly where you put your key in. Unfortunately there is very little slack in the wires and you will have to lay on your back to do this, definitely annoying. Try not to drip solder on yourself, but if you insist make sure you at least do not drip it on your face. I think the starter motor is the thick brown one (just a guess).

I think the kit I used had a separate power line for the accessories so I just powered it at the fuse box because it was fairly easy to get to. (again 1.5 year old memories so I may be wrong)
Volvodad is right about the relays.
I have some pictures of my car around someplace with around 8000 wires going every where when I was doing this.
While it is cool to impress people with remote starting your 16 year old car I do agree with Volvodad that maybe it is not a good idea. My kit has a hood switch that supposedly will not let the car start when the hood is open. But 1.5 years of corrosion later and much to my surprise it will start with the hood open. Nothing bad came of it but still scary idea. Mostly I did all this for the remote locks, I may end up disabling the remote starter.
