Just a hint, maybe it'll help with this- the ignition switch electrical part comes off the back of the column lock/ key cylinder part. Two M4 slotted head screws. A small screwdriver or perhaps a screwdriver bit, held by a wrench, and you can unscrew the electrical part to work on it.
I just replaced the whole ignition lock in my 82, so I had it out in my hands. Actually using the original switch on the new lock. It also just plugs into the back of the switch, large socket connections.
Having the switch removed allows you to test and see what connect to what when the key is turned. There is a little length in that harness- I'd been starting the car with a screwdriver from under the dash while it was broken. The switch just hung down over your right knee.
Good luck with it!
