Need some clarification on the ECU 556 variant

Interesting...

Regarding the ECU: is the 556 variant problematic like the 561? Will it need to be replaced? I'm not that familiar with the EGR - under what conditions might it be "not important?" Will it need it to function properly to pass somg in CA? I need some clarification on these matters, as this is new to me.
