Grain of salt.
What you have here are opinions. We are not the sellers nor the buyers so we are in the "perfect" position to offer advice... and you need not listen at all!
Others have converted to auto (but not many... most prefer to do it the other way around) but I have no desire to do so nor have I tried.
Buying a used Volvo is not an investment decision. You need to analyse your budget and heart and decide for yourself. Does your wife REALLY want this car or do you? Will all involved be happy if it is not fast, needs more work than 98% of the rest of the cars on the road (just a matter of technology)?
Bear in mind that it is OLD and WILL require fairly extensive maintenence to be a safe and dependable car. OTOH it will probably give fair service "as-is" but always be a "little off."
I am the worst to offer advice on buying a car as I nearly always let emotion intrude... buy high sell low seems to be my unintentional motto!
Above all else, be realistic and enjoy whatever you end up with.
